Today, Davis's successor, Conservative Leader Tim Hudak, is playing politics with the debt retirement charge, promising to eliminate it. You can't just snap your fingers and make a $10 billion dollar debt disappear, so Hudak plans to create the illusion that he has eliminated this cost on your electricity bill by shifting it to the provincial budget. This is a shell game. You will still pay for Darlington's debt, but it will just be hidden in your taxes. Worse still, Hudak has vowed to build more unneeded and expensive reactors at Darlington but has refused to say whether he'll allow the inevitable future cost overruns to be passed onto electricity consumers. Hudak should tell the truth before the Oct. 6 election. Will he force Ontarians to foot the bill for his multibillion-dollar nuclear plans? Yes or no?
